About Investor Data Rooms
We review virtual data rooms from the investor's side of the table: what a fund, a lead investor or a buyer needs to see, and how the company sharing the files keeps control.
What this site is for
Investors meet data rooms all the time. A seed fund opens dozens of startup rooms a year; a private equity deal team works through sell-side rooms on every bid; a fund manager runs its own room for limited partners. Founders and CFOs, on the other side, have to pick a platform quickly, often for the first time.
We compare 16 virtual data rooms on the five things that decide whether a room works for investor deals: access control, the diligence workflow, security and compliance, how fast a room can be opened, and how clear the price is. Every score comes from the same facts file and the same method, described on how we score.
Who writes the reviews
Reviews and articles are written and edited by the Investor Data Rooms editorial team. We sign as a team rather than as named individuals. We do not claim hands-on tests we did not run; we work from vendor documentation, published pricing, security attestations and help centres, and each review includes a checklist you can run in your own trial.
How the site is funded
The site is free to read. We may earn a commission when a reader buys through some links; the details are on our affiliate notice. Partners cannot buy a position or a score.
Corrections and updates
Vendors change prices and features. We recheck the facts behind every review each month. If you spot something out of date, write to us and we will check it against the vendor’s own documentation.
