First-time GPs and their prospective LPs

Data rooms for emerging fund managers

A first-time fund has no long record to point to. The data room has to answer the questions LPs ask emerging managers before they ask them.

Data room / Emerging fund managers 01 Fund documents 02 Attributable record 03 Team 04 Operations 05 Pipeline

Emerging managers raise from family offices, high net worth individuals, funds of funds and a few institutions with emerging manager programs. Each asks: what is the attributable track record, how will the team stay together, and is the back office real?

The room is also a cost question. A Fund I has a small management fee budget, so a data room at a published monthly price with LP-grade controls fits better than an enterprise contract.

What matters most: LP-grade controls at a Fund I budget; tracking tells a small team where to spend its time.
